Key Features

  • Adjustable Backlash:

The dual lead worm design features slightly different leads on the right and left tooth surfaces. By shifting the worm axially, backlash can be easily increased or decreased without disrupting the gear mesh or affecting transmission accuracy.

  • High Rotational Precision:

The MHI Haseg Dual Lead Worm Gear maintains constant backlash throughout rotation, ensuring smooth and accurate angular transmission. The measured maximum transmission error is as low as ±36 arcseconds, significantly outperforming standard single-lead worm gears.

  • Simple Structure for Fine Adjustment:

Because the worm is cylindrical, axial movement for backlash adjustment does not degrade tooth contact or efficiency. Adjustment can be done conveniently using a threaded ring mechanism.

  • Long Service Life and Stability:

Precise manufacturing and optimized tooth geometry reduce vibration and wear, ensuring consistent performance over long operating periods.

Applications

  • CNC machinery and industrial automation requiring accurate positioning and indexing.

  • Servo-driven systems such as radar tracking, aiming, and measurement equipment.

  • Film manufacturing, coating, and winding machinery sensitive to backlash and load fluctuations.

  • Machine tool cutter drives requiring anti-vibration and smooth torque transmission.

Technical Highlights

  • Available center distances: 100 mm to 250 mm

  • Standard reduction ratios: 10, 20, 31.5, 40, 50

  • Input speed range: up to 1,800 min⁻¹

  • Output torque capacity: up to 7,450 N·m (depending on model size and ratio)

  • Backlash adjustment range: defined by coefficient K × V (where V is axial movement in mm)

  • Manufactured to AGMA Grade 3 / JIS 0 precision standards

  • Maximum angular transmission error: within ±36 arcseconds

Construction and Maintenance

  • The worm and worm wheel are paired with matching left/right tooth surfaces for precise meshing.

  • Backlash adjustment is made by shifting the worm axially (ΔSd = 2V).

  • Standardized mounting flanges ensure easy alignment and assembly.

  • Standard lubrication follows typical worm gear practice; specific oil grades and viscosity recommendations are available upon request.

Quality and Warranty

Each unit is backed by MHI Haseg’s rigorous quality assurance system and an 18-month warranty from factory shipment or 12 months from start of operation (whichever is shorter). The series is designed and manufactured in Chiba, Japan, ensuring full compliance with Japanese industrial precision standards.
